On Saturday, June 9, the Byrne
Family Reunion will board the New
Tygart Flyer at the former Western
Maryland Railway Depot in
downtown Elkins for a trip aboard
a diesel powered streamliner
right "out of the 1950's"
We'll ride in the parlor cars of the premier
train of the West Virginia Central Railroad
Destination of the train will be the High Falls of Cheat River. We'll travel from Elkins through
Tunnel No. 1 and spend most of our time in picturesque Monongahela National Forest

Family member, Lars Byrne, left,
promises to leave the driving
to others the day of our trip.
We're not sure if he will wear
his trainman uniform.
The first West Virginia Central
passenger train to pull into
the new facilities at the former
Western Maryland Rwy Depot
in downtown Elkins is pictured
to the right. The New Tygart
Flyer has been stopping at the
old freight depot site in South
Elkins since 1999, but May 26,
2007 marked the return of
passenger service to
downtown and the restored
deport. The depot will
celebrate its 100th birthday
next year.
